Blueberry Filly Bearded Iris

Blueberry Filly Bearded Iris

18-24" tall x 18" wide. Blueberry Filly Bearded Iris (Iris germanica) parades through the mid-to-late spring garden in shades of violet-purple, flecked and striped in silvery white. White beards with a touch of gold add a furry texture to the flowers. These intermediate-height Bearded Iris, at 18-24" tall, stand on sturdy stems and blend well with other Bearded Iris. Plant some early season, mid, and late season Iris for a non-stop season of color. They are happy in average soil, but it must have good drainage to prevent root rot. Plant them so that the top of the rhizome (bulb) is just above soil level, where there are good sun and air circulation. Your Bearded Iris will grow and multiply, providing years of big, colorful blooms. Every 3-4 years as the plants multiply, gently dig up the rhizomes in August to divide them and re-plant, trade, or giveaway. Bumblebees love Bearded Iris, and Bearded Iris provides the perfect landing pad with their fuzzy doorsteps. Watching pollinators in action is a fun way for gardeners of all ages to appreciate the role flowers play in our gardens.
