Ivory Bells Persian Lily
(36ā-48ā tall) Ivory Bells Persian Lily (Fritillaria persica āIvory Bellsā) is a selection of the original purple Persian lily species native to rocky slopes in parts of the Middle East. Like the purple form, āIvory Bellsā emerges in early to mid-spring as tall stems clothed in gray-green alternate leaves. That sturdy foliage is beautiful in its own right, but by mid-spring it has erupted with 7-30 nodding ivory bells with a greenish cast ā stunning! A well-draining spot is essential for success, as āIvory Bellsā can succumb to rot if kept too wet. Plant in a well-drained soil that is rich in organic material in full sun to partial shade. Afternoon shade is appreciated in areas with a very hot summer. Fritillaries often give off a mild musky scent when the sun warms them, which may have much to do with their excellent deer resistance. Plant bulbs 8ā deep and space 9ā apart.
