Flowers open slowly from the bottom of the spike upwards. Faded flowers can be pinched off to keep the stem fresh. Once all flowers have faded, cut the stems back to the ground and enjoy the sword-like foliage. Plant Gladiolus Nanus ‘Albus’ in a sunny spot in the spring, ensuring it is dug into well-drained, loose soil 4” deep. Many gladioli in the Nanus group are hardier, but deeper planting up to 6” encourages overwintering – another bonus for hard-working gardeners in colder zones. Otherwise, lift and store them in a dry, cool, dark space over the winter months.
